Metz is a village in Vernon County, Missouri, United States. The population was 67 at the 2000 census, at which time it was a town.

Metz is located at (37.996913, -94.443746)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2007, there were 69 people, 29 households, and 18 families residing in the town. The population density was 548.9 people per square mile (215.6/km²). There were 36 housing units at an average density of 294.9 per square mile (115.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 100.00% White. Metz Grain, Metz Post office, and the Metz Bank are the only business left in the town.

There were 29 households out of which 31.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% were married couples living together, 10.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.9% were non-families. 37.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 31.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 3.11.

In the town the population was spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 4.5% from 18 to 24, 22.4% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 81.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $9,063, and the median income for a family was $18,000. Males had a median income of $18,750 versus $10,417 for females. The per capita income for the town was $6,940. There were 33.3% of families and 41.8% of the population living below the poverty line, including 44.4% of under eighteens and 41.7% of those over 64.
